Clearing the Air About His Position On The Super Eagles’ 2023 AFCON Squad, Vincent Enyeama, NFF

Reports that Vincent Enyeama, a former goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, will be coaching the goalkeepers for the team at the 2023 AFCON have been refuted.

When Vincent Enyeama posted a mysterious statement in the Instagram comments area of a picture about the Super Eagles’ 2023 AFCON preparation, the post went viral earlier this week.

“Leave now; I’ll see you in camp. It’s time for business, Enyeama remarked in a comment that most football fans took to mean he was rejoining the national squad.

The 41-year-old goalkeeper was clear to clarify that he and the Nigeria Football Federation had not discussed any potential return to the Super Eagles in his role as goalkeepers’ coach.

He did, however, mention that he would be visiting the team to support them before the competition in Ivory Coast starts on January 13.

“The NFF has not offered me an appointment, and there was no such conversation.” That was merely a personal remark, which means that when I go to the AFCON, I will go see them in camp. I take advantage of every chance to support the boys, said Vincent Enyeama.

Ademola Olajire, the NFF’s director of media and communications, also affirmed to OwnGoalNigeria.com that the NFF and Enyeama are not party to a contract.

“NFF has not extended a role offer to Enyeama. People ought to quit spreading this blatantly false information. It irritates me. The NFF would issue a statement if anything similar occurred, he said.

Remember that Enyeama won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa after making his debut for Nigeria on the international front in May 2002?

After competing in five Nations Cup competitions (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2013) and represented Nigeria in the World Cup in 2002, 2010 and 2014, the 41-year-old is currently the most successful goalie in Nigerian history.

After a falling out with Sunday Oliseh, the national team’s head coach at the time, Vincent Enyeama abruptly retired in 2015.
