Days before the 2023 AFCON, Pape Matar Sarr extends his contract with Tottenham.

Eleven days before the 2023 AFCON, on January 2, 2023, Tottenham Hotspur, a team in the Premier League, announced that Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr’s contract has been renewed.
Spurs and Pape Matar Sarr agreed to a six-and-a-half-year contract deal that will keep the North London player with the team through June 30, 2030.

On August 27, 2021, Sarr left French team FC Metz to join Tottenham Hotspur for a transfer fee of €16.90 million.

He signed the contract and spent one more season on loan at the French Ligue 1 club before joining the Premier League team on June 30, 2022.

Sarr has since participated in 33 games across all competitions, contributing three assists and two goals. He has participated in 22 games in all competitions so far this season, with two goals and two assists.

The 21-year-old center midfielder made his Senegalese national team debut on March 21, 2021, as a teenager, thanks to his prolific play. He has played for the nation 14 times since then.

Remember that Senegal’s team that won the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon in February 2022 included Pape Matar Sarr?

Sadly, even though he is a member of the national squad for the event, he might not be able to play in the 2023 edition.

Remember that on Sunday, December 31, Pape Matar Sarr was replaced in the 32nd minute of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against Bournemouth when he appeared to be in discomfort.

The majority of football fans conjectured following the 3-1 victory that Sarr could have to be substituted in Senegal’s 2023 AFCON team; however, Spurs have not yet disclosed the exact form and extent of Sarr’s ailment.
