Reguilon Leaves Manchester United To Return To Tottenham Hotspur

Sergio Reguilon, a left-back from Spain, has rejoined Tottenham Hotspur after spending the first half of the 2023–2024 Premier League season with Manchester United.

Sergio Reguilon initially had a season-long loan agreement with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, but there was a break option that allowed any team to choose to end the agreement in January.

Interestingly, the season-long loan agreement has been halted as Manchester United exercised the break clause today, January 2.

Though Sergio Reguilon wasn’t coach Erik ten Hag’s top target, the Red Devils made the decision to sign him when Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, their two left backs, were out with varying degrees of injuries.

On September 1, 2023, the 27-year-old Spanish left-back joined at Old Trafford and has since made 12 appearances across all competitions. On Saturday, December 30, the Red Devils played their final match against Nottingham Forest. He entered the game as a late substitute, and the team lost 2-1 against the Red Devils.

He didn’t start for Manchester United since December 9, 2023, when the team lost 3-0 against Bournemouth.

Sergio Reguilon will be more than needed because Shaw and Malacia are expected to return to full fitness this month. He must thus go back to Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou’s club, who are presently eight points ahead of Erik ten Hag’s struggling United team, who are currently in seventh place, is likely to benefit greatly from his arrival. Sergio Reguilon will be helpful because Spurs are currently dealing with a number of injuries.
