Wilfred Ndidi is replaced by Jose Peseiro in the Super Eagles 2023 AFCON squad.

The midfielder Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City has been replaced by Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro in the team’s 2023 AFCON roster.

According to Naija News, Super Eagles players Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi are out of commission due to injuries, as verified by Enzo Maresca, manager of Leicester City, an EFL Championship team.

Iheanacho and Ndidi were not included in the Leicester City team that won on Monday against Huddersfield Town in the English football league’s second division.

Coach Maresca stated that both Ndidi and Iheanacho will participate for the Super Eagles in the 2023 AFCON, but he also confirmed their fitness condition after the game.

He said, “Kele and Wilf are both injured, but they will be playing for the international team.”

Even though the exact form of Ndidi’s injury is unknown, coach Peseiro has replaced Wilfred Ndidi with Alhassan Yusuf, according to the Super Eagles’ official Instagram page earlier today, January 3.

This is Alhassan Yusuf’s first chance to play for the Nigerian Super Eagles, a team he has never represented in the past.

The 23-year-old center midfielder is presently employed by Royal Antwerp, a Belgian team. On July16,2021, he transferred for a meager €1 million from the Ukrainian team IFK Göteborg to join the club.

Alhassan Yusuf, who is currently valued at €5 million, has made 25 appearances for Antwerp this season, tallying three assists and one goal.

As of this writing, there was no word on whether the injured Iheanacho would be replaced prior to January 13, 2023, when the 2023 AFCON kicked off.
