Saquon Barkley has been inquired by Giants about possible franchise tag team

Less than a day after Saquon Barkley’s season with the New York Giants ended, the star running back spoke to reporters on Monday and delivered a direct message to franchise leadership about the possibility of being given the franchise tag again◊.

.

Barkley clearly doesn’t want any prolonged drama over his contract status heading into his second consecutive offseason.

“We did it last year.

That’s why I’m so numb to it,” Barkley said of the possibility of a second franchise tag, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

“I have absolutely no feelings about it.

If you want to do it, wait until March 5th.

Please end this now.

If not, let me go.

Barkley also said he would not participate in individual exit press conferences, adding that if the Giants wanted his input, he would know how to contact him.

Last offseason, Barkley was hired on the franchise tag in March.

He was clearly dissatisfied.

His status with the team before the start of the 2023 season was uncertain until he ultimately signed a contract that offered a small incentive beyond the franchise tender, but did not result in an extension.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen was asked Monday morning about the possibility of a second tag with Barkley, saying only, “That’s an option at our disposal.

” he continued.

On Wednesday, Barkley told reporters he wanted to play for the Giants for the rest of his life, but made it clear he didn’t want to be tagged.
