Special Teams Candidate Reportedly Declined Patriots’ Job Offer.

The next era of New England Patriots football is here as owner Robert Kraft decided to part ways with long-time head coach Bill Belichick.

Belichick served as the Patriots’ head coach for 24 years, winning six Super Bowls and establishing the organization as one of the best in the NFL.

However, after missing the playoffs again Belichick’s tenure in New England came to an end and Kraft elevated former linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to become their new head coach.Mayo was groomed to take over as Belichick’s replacement and now has the task of filling out his coaching staff.

For special teams, Mayo and the Patriots tried to lure Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Marquice Williams away but he apparently turned down their offer via Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Williams signed on to be the Falcons’ special teams coordinator back in 2021 and has served in that role since.

It makes sense why Williams would turn down a lateral move as he’s got a great special teams group in Atlanta already.

Mayo and the Patriots will now have to look elsewhere to fill in the coordinator positions on his coaching staff.

Fortunately for Mayo, there are plenty of qualified and intriguing candidates he can poach from around the league.

Building out a good coaching staff will be crucial for the first-time head coach and it’ll be interesting to see how it comes together over the next few weeks.
