Hatate started the season in fine form for the Hoops, picking up goals and assists galore in the weeks leading up to the Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid in late October – though after a hamstring injury against the Spanish giants at Parkhead, Hatate was ruled out for a lengthy period.

Only returning just before the Asian Cup, Hoops fans were expectant that Hatate would get back up to match speed whist away with Japan; though he’s only suffered detrimental effects. Picking up a calf injury against Bahrain, Hatate was confirmed to be out for another lengthy spell in what is only bad news for Celtic ahead of the Scottish Premiership title race; and the midfielder has finally notified fans of his situation.

Hatate posted on his Instagram on Sunday: “I could not contribute to the team and I am not good enough. I accept the reality and will continue to fight. Thank you for your support for the Asian Cup!”

Japan were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Iran on Saturday, with an injury-time penalty condemning the far east side to heartbreak in Al-Rayyan; though there are positives for Celtic as it means Daizen Maeda will return to their squad ahead of a title push.
