Former Atlanta Braves All-Star Signs With American League Powerhouse

As the Baltimore Orioles hunt for pitching depth, they have reached an agreement with former Atlanta Braves All-Star Julio Teheran. He spent a portion of the 2023 season with the Milwaukee Brewers.

As they seek to strengthen their pitching staff, the Baltimore Orioles have signed former All-Star Julio Teheran to a minor league contract.

Teheran has pitched in portions of 12 major league seasons for the Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, and Milwaukee Brewers. He played only one game for Milwaukee between 2021 and 2022 before returning to make 11 starts in 2023.

Last season, he finished 3-5 with a 4.40 ERA. He is now 33. His lifetime stats are 81-82 with a 3.83. Teheran represented the Braves in the All-Star Game in both 2014 and 2016, and he has five double-digit win seasons.

The Orioles’ motivations for signing him revolve around the health of their pitching staff. Baltimore will most likely start the season with both John Means and Kyle Bradish on the injured list. The Orioles, who won 101 games last season and have World Series aspirations, do not want an injured staff to derail their season. They obtained Corbin Burnes from the Brewers this offseason and are now adding Teheran, who may start or be a bullpen piece.

Following the injury, the Orioles will likely have Burnes, Grayson Rodriguez, and Dean Kremer as rotation locks.

Baltimore won the most games in the American League last season but was eliminated in the ALDS by the Texas Rangers.
