SHOCKING:Anthony Volpe removed from the Yankees’ lineup due…

It is so sad that Aaron Boone had been aiming to include Jon Berti in the lineup; however, he preferred it not to be under these circumstances.

Anthony Volpe was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with an upset stomach, the team said, as the Yankees tried to go for a sweep of the Astros at Minute Maid Park. The shortstop has gotten off to a strong start to the season, batting 4-for-10 with four walks and a 1.371 OPS, including smashing his first home run on Saturday night.

Volpe, who was one of six Yankees on the Opening Day roster to make the trip to Mexico City earlier this week at the end of camp, was replaced in the lineup by Berti, who started at third base.

At least a few members of the Yankees’ traveling party that went to Mexico have been dealing with gastrointestinal issues since then, though it was not clear whether Volpe’s illness on Sunday was related to that. The red-hot Oswaldo Cabrera shifted from third base to shortstop.
