Dear Razorback Nation,
It is with a heavy heart that I stand before you today to announce my resignation as the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks football team. This decision has not come lightly, and it is one that I have deliberated over for many sleepless nights. However, after much consideration, I have come to the realization that my health and family demand my attention more than ever before.
Coaching the Razorbacks has been the greatest honor of my professional career. From the moment I stepped onto the field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, I felt a profound sense of pride and responsibility. Representing this esteemed institution and its passionate fan base has been a privilege beyond measure.
Over the past few years, we have achieved some remarkable successes together. We’ve celebrated thrilling victories and overcome daunting challenges. Through it all, the unwavering support of the Razorback faithful has been our driving force. Your loyalty and devotion have inspired me to push harder, reach higher, and never settle for anything less than our very best.
However, as much as I cherish our time together on the gridiron, I must prioritize my health and well-being above all else. The demands of coaching at this level are immense, and they have taken a toll on both my physical and mental health. Despite my best efforts to soldier on, I have come to realize that I can no longer ignore the warning signs that my body and mind are sending me.
Moreover, my family has been my rock throughout this journey, offering unwavering love and support in the face of countless sacrifices. They have stood by me through the highs and lows of coaching, but I can no longer ask them to bear the burden of my career at the expense of our precious time together. My wife, children, and grandchildren deserve to have me fully present in their lives, and it is time for me to honor that commitment.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to Chancellor Steinmetz, Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek, and the entire University of Arkansas administration for their unwavering support and understanding during this challenging time. I am grateful for the opportunity they have given me to lead this storied program, and I will always cherish the memories we have created together.
To my coaching staff and players, I am eternally grateful for your hard work, dedication, and belief in our shared vision. You have given your all on the field, and I have no doubt that you will continue to achieve greatness in the years to come.
And to the Razorback Nation, thank you for welcoming me into your family with open arms and embracing me as one of your own. Your passion, loyalty, and unwavering support have been the driving force behind everything we have accomplished together.
As I take this next step in my journey, I do so with a heavy heart but also with a sense of peace and gratitude for the incredible memories we have shared. Know that I will always bleed Razorback red, and I will continue to cheer for our beloved team from the sidelines.
