Just In: Former Texas standout QB Mike Cotten dies at 84.

Mike Cotten, a former Texas star, passed away on Saturday following a brief illness, the institution confirmed on Sunday. He was eighty-four. During his time as the starting quarterback for the Longhorns from 1959 to 1961, Cotten went 17-4-1. He also played defensive back.

In 1961, Cotten led Texas to a 10-1 record and the No. 3 final ranking. After defeating Ole Miss 12–7, the Longhorns advanced to the Cotton Bowl, where Cotten was awarded the MVP of the match. In 1981, Cotten received his induction into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor.
