Just In: Ex-Lions DT in Trouble After Allegations Against Animal Cruelty Surfaces.

Isaiah Buggs, a former defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, is anticipated to be charged with multiple offenses in Alabama, including animal cruelty and claims that he shoved a police officer in April while being arrested.

According to Ryan Phillips of the Tuscaloosa Patch, Buggs is anticipated to face legal action after it was alleged that he left pets on his Alabama property.

“The civil petition states that on March 28, the Tuscaloosa Police Department received information of two dogs being left on the back porch of 5153 Diamond Circle,” the article stated. Isaiah Buggs, 27, is anticipated to face misdemeanor criminal charges in the matter.

Having been benched before the 2023 season began and being released in January, Buggs had a contentious time with the Lions. He voiced his opinions on social media during that time. Since then, Buggs has committed to the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to Phillips, a public records request revealed that Buggs’s company had received citations for operating without a business license, overcrowding, and nonpayment of city taxes. More information about the animals that authorities claimed they discovered on the premises was disclosed in a legal petition.

According to Phillips, “the civil petition filed Wednesday morning goes on to say that upon the arrival of TPD and the City of Tuscaloosa’s Animal Control officers, they discovered a grey and white pitbull on the screened-in back porch covered in feces and without access to food or water.”

Additionally, individuals who responded stated that they discovered a black Rottweiler mix that was imprisoned in a metal cage under direct sunlight without access to food or water.

According to the petition, the dogs were taken on March 28. The civil petition was cited by Phillips, who said that the pitbull was put to death after growing more hostile and not responding to heartworm medication. According to Phillips, the black Rottweiler mix was discovered to be “dangerously low weight” and had a positive Parvo test. The Tuscaloosa County Metro Animal Shelter continued to be in charge of the dog.

According to the story, Buggs is also being prosecuted in municipal court on additional allegations, one of which is that he “pointed] a gun at a woman outside of his business shortly after and pushed Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley into other officers during an arrest in April.”

In a statement to ESPN, Buggs’ agent, Trey Robinson, claimed that the defensive lineman for the Chiefs had nothing to do with the dogs discovered on the Alabama farm and accused the local government of harboring animosity toward him and his company.

According to Robinson, “he was not aware that the dogs in question remained at the property in question and they did not belong to him.” Furthermore, we think that the City of Tuscaloosa and its Police Department are working together to discredit Mr. Buggs’ name and reputation as part of a persistent subversive effort to force the closure of his local business, Kings Hookah Lounge. This is why we think the City of Tuscaloosa filed the charges today.

In 16 games with the Lions in 2022 and 2023, the 27-year-old Buggs made 58 tackles, including 2.0 sacks and a fumble recovery.
