The Falcons Identified as Possible Destination for Justin Jefferson in Bold Trade Offer.

The Atlanta Falcons’ bold move of signing quarterback Kirk Cousins to a hefty $180-million contract seemed like a big bet. However, they could escalate their gamble by reuniting Cousins with his former star teammate, wide receiver Justin Jefferson from the Minnesota Vikings.

In a recent article by Alex Ballentine on May 29, Bleacher Report proposed a trade scenario where the Falcons would offer wide receiver Drake London, their 2025 first-round pick, and a fourth-round selection for Jefferson. Ballentine highlighted the strong connection between Cousins and Jefferson, noting their successful collaboration during Jefferson’s standout 2022 season.

The possibility of Jefferson being traded gained traction after rumors emerged that the Vikings were eyeing wide receiver Malik Nabers in the 2024 NFL draft. Jefferson’s contract situation, expiring at the end of the 2024 season, also fueled speculation.

Despite conflicting reports, with ESPN’s Kevin Seifert stating the Vikings have no intention of trading Jefferson and are working on extending his contract, trade rumors persist, especially during the NFL’s quieter periods.

The idea of Jefferson joining the Falcons is intriguing due to his history with Cousins. Jefferson has consistently delivered impressive stats with Cousins as his quarterback, making him an attractive option for Atlanta.

However, acquiring Jefferson would come at a high cost, potentially impacting the Falcons’ future. Losing their next first-round pick and a promising receiver like London would leave gaps in the team’s roster. Additionally, signing Jefferson to a contract extension, given his anticipated record-breaking salary demands, would strain the Falcons’ finances.

Considering the hefty trade package and the impending expensive contract extension, it’s unlikely that the Falcons will pursue Jefferson. Nonetheless, it’s an enticing scenario to ponder during the NFL offseason.
