After firing Darvin Ham, the Los Angeles Lakers have not been in a hurry to select a new head coach, but according to a well-known NBA reporter, the choice has already been selected.

Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report stated he is “pretty positive” that JJ Redick will take over as the Los Angeles Lakers’ next head coach during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday.

“Anyone other than JJ Redick as their next head coach would surprise me greatly. All I’m hearing is JJ Redick,” Haynes remarked. According to what I understand, he is conducting background checks and contacting potential assistant coaches who may or may not be able to join his staff. I’m fairly certain that JJ will be there.

Since it became available, Redick has been seen as a front-runner for the Lakers position. LeBron James and the 39-year-old are great friends, and they recently started the podcast “Mind the Game” together. LeBron, meanwhile, has made an effort to disassociate himself from Los Angeles’ coaching hunt and maintains that he is not pursuing Redick or any other contender.

Redick spent 14 seasons as a player in the league between 2006 and 2021, however he has no coaching experience. According to a recent rumor, the Lakers view Redick as a prospective coach who could lead the team into the future while getting the most out of its present core, akin to Pat Riley.

The Lakers are said to have been impressed by at least one other applicant during the interview process, but Redick is the overwhelming favorite to get the position.
