Frank Seravalli: Montreal Canadiens must create a significant impression.
The Montreal Canadiens suffered again another dismal season, spending the majority of it outside of the postseason picture. Once more, the team’s lack of star power was a major factor in their inability to generate any buzz. Their leading scorer, Nick Suzuki, isn’t good enough to make the playoffs since Juraj Slafkovsky isn’t quite at that level yet and Cole Caufield can’t consistently bring home goals.
With that in mind, it’s likely time for the Habs to move forward and acquire a significant player to anchor their roster. Given the number of well-known players already involved in both free agency and trade, which would be the best course of action?
On Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk talked about which huge names might be a perfect match for the Habs.
Seravalli Frank: One thing that sticks out to me is that I believe they need more differentiators. Though I realize it’s an impure thought, Mitch Marner, a Canadian from Montreal? Though I doubt it will ever happen and the Toronto Maple Leafs wouldn’t even be able to complete the deal, the Habs should be attempting to acquire that caliber of player given their prospects, picks, and rapidly developing defense core.
The same is true of a Carolina Marty Necas. He seems like a player who may be one of those players they would be pursuing because of his game-changing ability.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Given that both general managers have moved on, the animosity between Carolina and Montreal has vanished.
Frank Seravalli: When owners are engaged, I’m not sure it ever really ends. However, I would still be thrilled to see something along those lines.
