“I See Another Watford Collapse” – Ex-PL Star Delivers Brutal Verdict on Wolves’ Survival Chances

Andy Townsend Says Wolves Look Destined for Relegation

Former Premier League star Andy Townsend has delivered a damning assessment of Wolves, admitting the current squad reminds him of the Watford team relegated in the 2021/22 season.

Wolves’ misery continued on Monday night after another defeat — this time to Manchester United — extending their winless Premier League run to 15 games out of 15.
They now sit 13 points from safety, and the arrival of Rob Edwards has not sparked the turnaround fans hoped for.

“This Looks Like Watford All Over Again” – Townsend

Speaking on talkSPORT (8th December, 21:52), Townsend said Wolves’ chaotic squad changes and lack of identity mirror the Watford side that couldn’t escape relegation:

“When I look at this Wolves team, I see a Watford team from a few years ago.
You see a group of players with a huge turnover, and fans aren’t sure who they’re supporting from one week to the next.”

Townsend believes the departure of established stars has drained belief from both the squad and the fanbase.

Major Wolves Exits Last Summer

Player Left For
Matheus Cunha Manchester United
Rayan Ait-Nouri Manchester City
Fabio Silva Borussia Dortmund
Goncalo Guedes Real Sociedad
Nelson Semedo Fenerbahce
Pablo Sarabia Al-Arabi

Townsend argues these exits stripped Wolves of their backbone:

“There is no way, from what I’ve witnessed, that they have enough quality to get themselves out of trouble.”

January Window: Wolves’ Only Hope?

According to Townsend, Wolves’ survival hopes hinge on a miraculous January transfer window:

“Unless something very special walks through the door in January, I can’t give this Wolves team any sort of hope whatsoever.”

Even Rob Edwards is feeling the pressure. After calling for consistency following the loss to Aston Villa in late November, Wolves have shown no improvement, and the season’s halfway point is closing in fast.

Backing for Edwards? No Guarantees

While Edwards may be hoping the club invests heavily in January, it’s unclear how much financial backing he’ll receive — especially with relegation looking almost inevitable.

If Wolves don’t find solutions quickly, Townsend’s comparison to Watford may prove frighteningly accurate.
