Jhon Arias has not made the impact Wolves fans were hoping for.
Signed in the summer for £19 million from Fluminense, the Colombia international arrived with big expectations after shining for years in Brazil and impressing at the Club World Cup.
But so far, Arias is yet to score or assist, and aside from a few decent performances, he has struggled to meet the hype. Frustration reached a new level on Monday, when Wolves fans ironically cheered as Rob Edwards substituted him against Manchester United — the same reaction Jorgen Strand Larsen received.
The following day, an interview with Arias was published, where he delivered a calm but defiant message to supporters.
Arias: “I Have the Conviction to Improve”

Signed to fill the void left by Matheus Cunha — even taking the Brazilian’s iconic number 10 shirt — Arias has fallen short of those standards.
His form has sparked talk of a potential exit, with Flamengo and Fluminense both reportedly interested.
However, Arias insists he’s staying focused:
“With Wolves, I’m a very focused, calm and aware person. I know what has brought me here and how far I will go.
What has made me achieve great things is staying humble, working and focused. I am aware of the situation we are in, but I also know I have everything to reverse it. I have that conviction.
We have had a bit of bad luck, but we have to keep working, trusting in God and hoping things improve.”
His tone suggests someone who remains confident despite criticism — though it’s unclear when this interview was recorded.
What Rob Edwards Has Told Arias
Arias also revealed details of his early conversations with manager Rob Edwards, who joined the club while Arias was away with Colombia.
“The manager approached me the first day I arrived. He has been very transparent.
He told me he knows what a great player I am and what I can bring to the club.
He understands it’s a process — not just for me personally, but for the team. He has tried to give me confidence and security, because things might be okay, but they need to be better.”
Edwards’ message suggests the coaching staff still believe in Arias’ ability — even if the performances haven’t shown it yet.
Arias Must Step Up to Keep His Place
Despite the positive comments, Arias’ recent displays have been far below Premier League standard.
If he wants to remain in the starting XI, he will need to show far more urgency, creativity, and end product than he has so far.
The talent is there — but Wolves fans are still waiting to see it.
