GARRY NEVILLE ON SKY SPORTS YESTERDAY
🗣️ “I can’t lie, everyone is seeing it, there is no escape route for them anymore. Believe me, I will definitely help them if I can.”
Gary Neville on West Ham’s relegation battle despite the win against Burnley
Gary Neville has delivered a brutally honest assessment of West Ham United’s situation after their 2–0 victory over Burnley, insisting the Hammers are still deep in trouble despite the crucial three points.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, the former Manchester United defender admitted that West Ham’s win only delayed the inevitable pressure rather than removing it.
> “I can’t lie, everyone is seeing it now,” Neville said. “There is no easy escape route for them anymore. They’ve got themselves into a position where every game is like a cup final.”
West Ham secured the win through early goals from Crysencio Summerville and ValentĂn Castellanos, but Neville warned that performances like that will not be enough to guarantee safety if consistency does not improve.
> “Yes, they won tonight, and that’s massive,” he continued. “But when you look at their fixtures and their overall form this season, they are still right in the relegation fight. One win doesn’t suddenly change everything.”
Neville also suggested that West Ham must rely on experience and leadership in the dressing room if they are to survive the drop.
> “They’ve got quality players, no doubt about that,” he added. “But survival is about mentality now. It’s about who can handle the pressure when the stadium is nervous and the season is on the line.”
Despite his grim outlook, Neville hinted he would like to see the club avoid relegation.
> “Believe me, I will definitely help them if I can,” he said. “Nobody wants to see a club like West Ham go down, but football doesn’t wait for anyone.”
The win over Burnley lifted West Ham slightly away from the bottom three, but with several tough fixtures ahead, the Hammers remain locked in one of the Premier League’s most intense relegation battles.
For West Ham fans, Neville’s warning is clear: celebration must be short-lived, because the real fight for survival has only just begun.
