UNBELIEVABLE: This is what Jamie Carragher had to say about Celtic’s 4–1 defeat
Former Liverpool defender and TV pundit Jamie Carragher has sparked outrage across Scotland after delivering a brutal verdict on Celtic and the state of Scottish football following their crushing 4–1 loss to VfB Stuttgart in the Europa League knockout stage.
Speaking on live television, Carragher didn’t hold back as he compared the performances of Scotland’s top clubs in Europe this season:
🗣️ “Celtic 1–4 Stuttgart. Rangers finished 32nd in the Europa League table. Aberdeen finished 35th in the Conference League table. Celtic finished 21st and have now been absolutely smashed in the first leg of the Round of 32.”
He then delivered the line that sent Scottish fans into meltdown:
🗣️ “Scottish teams would easily win the Premier League? 😂 My foot. Give them the first ten games and they’d still get relegated.”
Carragher’s comments were aimed not only at Celtic, but at the wider claims that Scottish clubs could compete with England’s elite. The pundit argued that recent European results prove there is a huge gap between the Scottish Premiership and the Premier League.
The criticism was particularly painful for Celtic supporters, who had hoped for a strong European run after finishing 21st in the Europa League group phase. Instead, the heavy home defeat to Stuttgart has left them with a mountain to climb in the second leg.
Meanwhile, Rangers and Aberdeen also found themselves dragged into the debate, with their low finishes in European competitions used as evidence against the strength of Scottish football.
Social media exploded within minutes of Carragher’s rant, with fans accusing him of disrespecting the history of Scottish clubs, while others admitted the results were “hard to argue with.”
One thing is certain:
Jamie Carragher hasn’t just downgraded Celtic — he’s taken a wrecking ball to the reputation of Scottish football as a whole.
