Celtic

To be frank it felt like the stadium was falling over our head “Their chant really demoralises us

After his lightning-fast opener, Luke McCowan has revealed just how intimidating the atmosphere was during Celtic’s latest European outing.

The Celtic midfielder stunned the home crowd with an early strike, but admits the goal did little to silence the relentless noise pouring down from the stands.

> “To be frank, it felt like the stadium was falling over our head,” McCowan said after the match.

“Their chant really demoralises us. You couldn’t just focus because they were so loud and chanting the same thing throughout the game.”

The early goal gave Celtic hope of mounting a comeback, yet the atmosphere inside the stadium quickly turned into a test of nerve and concentration for the visitors. Supporters of the home side maintained a constant wall of sound, refusing to let the tempo drop even after conceding.

McCowan explained that the noise affected communication on the pitch, with players struggling to hear instructions and one another during key phases of the game. Despite that, he praised his teammates for showing composure and discipline in difficult conditions.

> “You try to block it out, but it’s impossible when it’s that intense. Credit to the lads, we stuck to the plan and didn’t panic,” he added.

Although the result ended Celtic’s European run, McCowan’s comments underline the mental battle faced by players in hostile away environments — where scoring early can sometimes make the challenge even tougher rather than easier.

The Hoops now turn their attention back to domestic action, hoping to channel the experience into stronger performances as the season reaches its decisive stage.
