NOTTINGHAM FOREST HANDED GREEN LIGHT BY £35MILLION-RATED STAR OVER SUMMER TRANSFER

Nottingham Forest have been handed a major boost in their summer transfer plans after £35million-rated midfielder Arne Engels gave the club the green light over a potential move to the City Ground.

The 22-year-old Belgian international, currently at Celtic, has reportedly informed the Scottish champions that he is open to a return to the Premier League this summer, with Nottingham Forest emerging as his preferred destination. Sources close to the player claim Engels is excited by the project being built by Vitor Pereira and sees the move as a significant step in his career.

Engels joined Celtic from Augsburg in 2024 and has impressed with his technical ability, vision, and goal-scoring threat from midfield. His performances in the Scottish Premiership and European competitions have significantly boosted his stock, with his current market value sitting around the £35million mark according to several valuation reports.

Nottingham Forest have been long-term admirers of the versatile midfielder. In January 2026, the club made three separate bids for Engels, with their final offer reaching £25million. Although those bids were rejected by Celtic, Forest are expected to return with a much stronger proposal this summer, potentially in the region of £28million–£35million to meet Celtic’s valuation.

Why Engels Wants the Move

The player is believed to be keen on regular exposure in one of Europe’s top leagues. Despite enjoying his time at Celtic, where he has won domestic honours, Engels feels the time is right for a new challenge. Nottingham Forest’s ambition to establish themselves as a solid Premier League side — and potential European contenders — is said to be highly attractive to the Belgian.

Forest’s recruitment team views Engels as the ideal profile to strengthen their midfield, particularly if they are unable to keep hold of star man Elliot Anderson amid interest from Manchester’s big two. His ability to play as a No.8, No.10, or even on the right flank gives Pereira valuable tactical flexibility.

Celtic are under no immediate pressure to sell but are aware that rejecting another substantial offer could risk unsettling the player. Negotiations are expected to intensify once the transfer window officially opens in mid-June.

This potential deal would represent a significant statement of intent from Nottingham Forest as they look to build a competitive squad capable of pushing for a top-half finish and European qualification next season.

Forest fans will be watching developments closely, hoping this green light turns into a concrete signing that bolsters their midfield for the challenges ahead.
