After securing a 14th-place finish in their first season back in the Premier League, Leeds United have already turned their attention towards the upcoming summer transfer window.
Daniel Farke has publicly urged the board to show greater ambition as he looks to strengthen his squad and help the club push forward again next season.
At the same time, Paraag Marathe has stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced and sustainable strategy, particularly with the Premier League’s Squad Cost Ratio regulations now heavily influencing financial planning.
Leeds are widely expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer amid ongoing discussions over Karl Darlow’s contract situation, and another name has now emerged on their shortlist.
Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek attracting Leeds interest
Lukas Hornicek has caught the eye across Europe with a series of impressive performances for Braga this season, leading to growing links with a move to the Premier League.
Standing at 6’5, the Czech goalkeeper is viewed as someone who possesses both the physical presence and technical ability required to cope with the demands of English football.
According to Portuguese outlet Bola na Rede’s Lei do Mercado programme, Leeds are keen on securing Hornicek’s signature during the summer window.
Leeds scouts have monitored the 23-year-old throughout the campaign and are understood to be highly impressed by his displays for Braga, who finished fourth in Portugal’s top division.
Hornicek has recorded 24 clean sheets in 55 appearances across all competitions this season, further strengthening Leeds’ interest in bringing him to Elland Road.
However, no formal negotiations have yet taken place between the two clubs, while Braga are expected to take a firm stance in any discussions over a potential transfer.
Karl Darlow’s situation remains unresolved
Leeds still face a major decision regarding their goalkeeping department ahead of next season. The arrival of a new goalkeeper would likely result in either Karl Darlow or Lucas Perri departing the club.
Darlow has produced several solid performances this season, but his current contract expires this summer and an agreement over an extension has yet to be reached.
Meanwhile, Perri struggled to provide stability after arriving last year and has not featured in a Premier League match since late December.
Should Darlow agree fresh terms, the Brazilian goalkeeper would almost certainly move on to create room for a new arrival.
Leeds are continuing discussions with Darlow’s representatives over a possible extension, although no final agreement has been reached at this stage.
