Ellis Simms’ 0.72 and 50.3% stats show how he could transform Wolves’ attack

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keeping tabs on Coventry City striker Ellis Simms as they consider a late move before the transfer window closes.
The Premier League club are expected to receive loan offers for the 25-year-old forward from several Championship sides, with Wolves believed to be among the clubs interested in securing his services.
Simms played an important role in Coventry’s Championship title-winning campaign last season, scoring 13 goals in the second tier.
The striker could now remain in the division, with Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto looking to strengthen his attacking options.
Wolves’ interest in Simms is understandable when looking at his impressive numbers from the 2025-26 campaign.
How good was Ellis Simms last season?
If Darren Witcoop’s report proves accurate, Wolves could be in line for an excellent piece of business if they manage to land Simms.
Although the striker was not a regular starter last season, he consistently showed his goalscoring ability whenever given an opportunity.
According to FotMob, as of August 18, Simms averaged 0.72 goals, 0.64 xG, 4.20 shots, 1.88 shots on target and 4.81 aerial duels won per 90 minutes in the Championship. He also recorded an impressive 50.3 per cent success rate in aerial duels.
Those figures highlight the impact Simms could have at Wolves. If they can complete a deal, he would provide an effective option to bring off the bench and give the Old Gold greater attacking depth.
Raul Jimenez is expected to remain the club’s main striker this season, while Adam Armstrong could be used more frequently on the left.
However, that would leave Wolves short of natural options through the middle, something that was evident when looking at the substitutes’ bench for their game against Blackburn.
As a result, bringing in Simms could prove to be an important addition as Wolves look to strengthen their squad and boost their promotion hopes.
Who else are Wolves looking to sign this summer?
Reports on Tuesday claimed that Wolves are also monitoring Brighton and Hove Albion winger Amario Cozier-Duberry.
The 21-year-old enjoyed an excellent campaign with Bolton Wanderers last season, helping the club secure promotion to the Championship.
Wolves are keen to add more quality and depth to their options out wide, with Cozier-Duberry emerging as one of the players under consideration.
However, with the transfer window entering its final stages, it remains to be seen whether Wolves can reach an agreement for the talented winger.
