Newcastle fans urge Ross Wilson to immediately sell player who had ‘stinker’ vs West Brom

Newcastle United fans have voiced their frustration with Nick Woltemade following the striker’s disappointing performance in the Carabao Cup clash against West Bromwich Albion.

The Magpies eventually secured their place in the third round after a dramatic encounter, but not every Newcastle player impressed. Woltemade, in particular, found himself at the centre of criticism from supporters who questioned whether he has a future at St James’ Park.

Newcastle were forced to work hard for their victory after Isaac Price opened the scoring for West Brom inside the first 20 minutes.

The hosts responded before half-time when Bazoumana Traore found the net for his first Newcastle goal since completing his £43 million move from Hoffenheim.

Harvey Barnes was introduced at the break and made an immediate impact, helping Newcastle take the lead shortly after the restart.

West Brom refused to give up, however, and Price scored his second goal of the night with 13 minutes remaining to put the Championship side level again.

Barnes ultimately proved to be Newcastle’s match-winner. The winger completed his brace moments later, calmly finishing from Amar Dedic’s pull-back to send the Magpies into the next round.

While Barnes received plenty of praise, Woltemade endured a much tougher evening.

The German striker was making his first appearance under Matthias Jaissle after being left on the bench during Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

However, he struggled to make a significant impact during his 90 minutes on the pitch.

Woltemade managed just one shot on target, lost possession five times and completed only one dribble. His performance quickly became a talking point among Newcastle supporters on social media.

Some fans were particularly critical and called on sporting director Ross Wilson to consider moving the striker on before the transfer window closes.

One supporter argued that Newcastle should consider selling, swapping or loaning Woltemade, while another questioned why the club had not already considered moving him on.

Another fan simply described the striker’s display as another “absolute stinker”.

There were also concerns about whether Woltemade is suited to Jaissle’s tactical approach.

The Newcastle boss prefers an energetic style built around intensity and pressing, and some supporters believe Woltemade’s playing style does not naturally fit into that system.

One fan admitted they liked the German but felt that English football and the current Newcastle setup may not suit him.

Another supporter took a more sympathetic view, suggesting that Woltemade appears short of confidence and may be struggling to adapt to the demands of his manager.

Woltemade’s Newcastle career has already experienced significant highs and lows.

Following his £69 million move from Stuttgart last summer, the forward made an impressive start to life in the Premier League, scoring four goals in his first five appearances.

However, his form subsequently dropped and he has reportedly scored only seven goals in his next 47 appearances for the club.

His position in the Newcastle pecking order has also become less secure, with Yoane Wissa and Will Osula appearing to be preferred options in Jaissle’s attack.

That situation could potentially open the door for Woltemade to leave before the September 1 transfer deadline.

According to reports from Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur on August 23, Woltemade is interested in leaving Newcastle, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig among the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

A return to Germany could give the 24-year-old an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and rediscover the form he showed when he first arrived at Newcastle.

However, Newcastle would likely face a difficult task in recovering the £69 million they invested in the striker.

For now, Woltemade’s future remains uncertain. His performance against West Brom has only increased the debate among Newcastle supporters, with some already calling for the club to make a decision on his future before the transfer window closes.
