Coventry City stars dominate PFA Championship Team of the Year after title-winning season

Coventry City have received major recognition for their incredible Championship campaign, with six Sky Blues players named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, defenders Milan van Ewijk and Bobby Thomas, midfielders Matt Grimes and Jack Rudoni, and striker Haji Wright were all selected after playing key roles in Coventry’s title-winning 2025/26 season.

Rushworth enjoyed an outstanding campaign between the posts. The goalkeeper, who spent the season on loan at Coventry, recorded 17 clean sheets to claim the Championship Golden Glove award. His performances earned him a permanent move back to the Sky Blues from Brighton this summer.

Van Ewijk was also instrumental in Coventry’s promotion-winning campaign. The right-back registered eight assists in 44 appearances, providing an important attacking threat from defence.

Thomas became a huge figure at the heart of Coventry’s defence and produced one of the most memorable moments of the season. His goal secured the result that confirmed Coventry’s return to the Premier League after 25 years away.

The centre-back finished the campaign with three goals and four assists, underlining his contribution at both ends of the pitch.

Captain Matt Grimes was another key figure for the Sky Blues. The midfielder started all 46 of Coventry’s league matches, scoring twice and providing two assists as the club secured the Championship title.

Jack Rudoni also earned his place after an impressive campaign despite struggling with injuries. He managed seven goals and six assists in 30 appearances, making a significant contribution whenever he was available.

Up front, Haji Wright finished as Coventry’s leading scorer. The American forward found the net 17 times in 32 appearances, finishing third in the Championship scoring charts.

Wright’s impressive season was followed by another major achievement this summer, as he was included in the United States squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With six players selected, Coventry have made a huge mark on the PFA’s Championship Team of the Year following their memorable title-winning campaign.

The other players included in the team were Millwall pair Tristan Crama and Femi Azeez, Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, former Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, and Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik.

For Coventry supporters, having six players recognised among the best performers in the division is another reminder of just how impressive the Sky Blues’ Championship-winning season was.
