England 2-3 Spain: Fans Call Out ‘Embarrassing’ Player For ‘Cheating’ in Nations League

England suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Spain in their opening Nations League fixture at Wembley Stadium, but one moment involving Bukayo Saka has sparked a separate wave of reaction among supporters online.

Spain made the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening two minutes after a mistake from Marc Guehi allowed Lamine Yamal a clear opportunity to score.

England responded strongly and turned the game around with two goals in quick succession around the half-hour mark.

Anthony Gordon brought the hosts level after racing forward on a fast counter-attack and calmly slotting the ball past Unai Simón, who had been caught off his line.

Harry Kane then completed England’s turnaround, with his header taking a deflection off Marc Cucurella before finding the back of the net.

Spain, however, refused to panic.

Alex Baena restored parity in the second half before Mikel Oyarzabal produced the decisive moment in the 74th minute, delicately lifting the ball over Trafford to put Spain back in front.

England were unable to find another equaliser as Spain held on for a 3-2 victory.

Bukayo Saka Incident Sparks Debate

While the result dominated the headlines, Bukayo Saka also found himself at the centre of criticism from some England supporters following an incident in the first half.

The Arsenal winger went down following a challenge from Spain winger Nico Williams.

The referee did not award a foul.

Replays appeared to show some contact between Saka and Williams, although the referee judged that it was not enough to stop play.

Moments later, Saka was back on his feet as the ball came towards him. He chased after it and subsequently won a foul for England.

That sequence quickly became a talking point among supporters watching the match.

Some England fans accused Saka of going to ground too easily, with several taking to social media to voice their frustration.

One supporter wrote:

“The diving culture in the English game is shocking. Saka is a major culprit. Not alone as it runs throughout the club.”

Another said:

“Saka is a diving cheat… Might play for England but he loves a dive and they never call it out.”

Another fan simply described the incident as an “embarrassment”, while another wrote:

“Saka taking a dive and staying down… nothing changes for club or country. Different type of cheating…”

The comments quickly turned the incident into one of the major talking points surrounding England’s defeat.

No Booking for Saka

Despite the criticism from some supporters, Saka was not booked for the incident.

That means the referee did not deem the action worthy of a yellow card, leaving the interpretation of the incident largely to those watching the match.

Saka remained on the pitch until the 83rd minute before being substituted.

The Arsenal attacker finished the game without a goal or assist and received a 6.3 rating from FotMob.

For England, the night ultimately ended in disappointment.

The Three Lions twice held the lead after recovering from Spain’s early opener, but Spain produced the stronger finish and walked away from Wembley with all three points.

The defeat will naturally bring attention to England’s performance, but Saka’s first-half incident has ensured that the Arsenal star is also facing plenty of discussion among supporters following the final whistle.
