United’s Premier League rivals set to appoint shock manager

Leeds United supporters will remember the goalless draw against Crystal Palace during the latter stages of the season. The result came during a difficult run of fixtures when the Whites were desperately searching for points.

Daniel Farke’s side headed into the international break having collected just two points from a possible 12, leaving them under increasing pressure.

The stalemate at Selhurst Park felt particularly frustrating because Leeds had opportunities to secure all three points. Dominic Calvert-Lewin squandered a first-half penalty after the visitors had enjoyed a strong spell of dominance.

Things then took a turn for the worse when Gabriel Gudmundsson received two yellow cards and was sent off. However, the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel later reviewed the decision and concluded that the dismissal was incorrect.

Leeds eventually finished 14th in the Premier League standings, just two points ahead of Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace closing in on surprise managerial appointment

Overall, both Leeds and Palace can look back on successful campaigns. The Whites secured Premier League survival and reached their first FA Cup semi-final in more than three decades.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, capped off a remarkable season by lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy. The triumph proved to be the farewell gift from manager Oliver Glasner, who is expected to depart the club this summer.

Glasner leaves having delivered an impressive haul of silverware, including the FA Cup, Community Shield and Europa Conference League.

According to Sky Sports, Palace are considering a surprise move for Pierre Sage as his successor. Sage managed Lens last season, guiding the Ligue 1 side to a second-place finish while also winning the Coupe de France.

The development has raised eyebrows, with Sage potentially leaving a club competing at the top end of French football to take charge of a Palace side that finished 15th in the league last season.

While an agreement has not yet been finalised, discussions are ongoing as Palace work towards appointing Sage ahead of the new campaign.

Leeds must address their own managerial situation

Several weeks have passed since the end of the season, yet there remains little clarity regarding Daniel Farke’s future at Elland Road.

The Leeds head coach is entering the final year of his contract, and reports during the season suggested that discussions over his future would take place once the campaign concluded.

In the closing weeks of the season, Farke repeatedly stated his desire to remain at the club. However, Leeds must demonstrate that they share his ambition if they are to continue progressing.

The Whites invested around £100 million in new signings last summer, and a similar level of commitment may be required if they hope to strengthen the squad and establish themselves further in the Premier League next season.
