Danny Rohl Left Red-Faced on Quiz Show After Football Question Blunder

Rangers manager Rangers FC endured an awkward moment to forget on ITV quiz show Tipping Point after being caught out by a surprisingly tricky football-related question.

The German coach, who has quickly built a reputation in management after his rise through coaching ranks in England and Europe, appeared on the popular daytime programme hosted by Ben Shephard, where he came up against comedienne Katherine Ryan in the head-to-head round.

Given his background in elite football environments, many expected Rohl to breeze through any sport-related questions thrown his way.

But things didn’t quite go to plan.

“This is so embarrassing!” – Rohl Stumped on European Football Question

Shephard asked the question: which country won the European Championships in 2016 and then went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 for the first time?

It was the sort of question that might have been tailor-made for someone with Rohl’s football pedigree. However, he hesitated, visibly unsure, before admitting: “Believe it or not, I’m not 100%… Ben, this is so embarrassing!”

After a brief pause and some consideration, Rohl eventually settled on Italy, ruling out Spain and Germany, with the latter described as “far too strong” during that era.

But as the tension built, Shephard revealed the correct answer: Portugal.

Rohl immediately dropped his head in disappointment as the studio reacted, clearly frustrated at missing a question that seemed, on paper, within reach for a football man of his calibre.

“Of course it was,” he admitted. “I go there every year.”

Social Media Reacts to the Moment

Clips of the exchange quickly made the rounds online, with viewers quick to share their thoughts.

One user commented: “To be fair, Portugal were forgettable in that tournament, they weren’t convincing at all.”

Another added: “How can someone so involved in football not know that? That’s shocking.”

A third wrote: “I’d understand if it was some obscure stat, but this is a major international tournament. That’s wild from a football manager.”

The moment added yet another light-hearted entry to the growing list of football figures caught out on quiz shows under pressure.

Danny Rohl Opens Up on Coaching Life and Wage Shock Moment on Podcast

Away from the quiz show drama, Rohl has also been making the rounds on podcasts, including appearances on popular football and sport shows where he has shared insights into coaching and life in the game.

During one conversation, he spoke candidly about his playing and coaching journey, as well as the financial side of professional football – a topic that left former rugby international Joe Marler visibly stunned.

Marler began by asking: “In your prime or your top contract, what kind of money were you on in football?”

Rohl responded honestly: “My biggest contract was around £50,000 a week,” a figure that immediately caused silence in the studio.

Marler reacted in disbelief: “£50k a week?!”

The exchange highlighted the often-surprising wage scale within elite football, particularly for those working around top-level clubs, where coaching and playing careers can involve significant financial rewards alongside intense pressure.

Rohl, now fully focused on his managerial career with Rangers, continues to build his reputation both on and off the pitch – even if quiz show appearances might not be his favourite territory.
