Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on West Ham United youngster Ollie Scarles, according to talkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs.
The 20-year-old full-back enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under former Hammers boss Graham Potter, earning valuable first-team opportunities after impressing with the club’s academy.
However, Scarles’ momentum slowed after new manager Nuno Espírito Santo deployed him in an unfamiliar right-back role, where he struggled before falling out of the regular starting picture.
Despite that, Jacobs claims the England youth international remains on Manchester United’s radar.
Speaking on YouTube, Jacobs said:
«”Manchester United have assessed some young names like Oliver Scarles at West Ham United as a full-back option who’s relatively versatile.”»
The comments have sparked fresh speculation over United’s interest in the promising defender, although no formal approach has been made.
Scarles is regarded as one of West Ham’s brightest academy graduates, having played a key role in the club’s FA Youth Cup triumph before breaking into the senior squad.
Interestingly, this is not the first time a West Ham full-back has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Earlier reports suggested Manchester United admired El Hadji Malick Diouf, but the speculation never developed into a concrete offer.
As things stand, United have been linked with several West Ham players this summer, yet none of those rumours have resulted in an official bid.
Until a formal move is made, the reported interest in Scarles remains just that speculation.
