Sad News: A Key Player Jarius Sneed Exchange Two Players Sudden…

Although it appears the Kansas City Chiefs plan to franchise tag wide receiver L’Jarius Sneed, there is no assurance he will join the team in 2024. The Chiefs have told Sneed’s camp that, should a long-term agreement not be reached, they are open to considering a tag-and-trade situation, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler reports that Sneed is amenable to such a deal.

According to a source, the #Chiefs have told L’Jarius Sneed that they are willing to deploy the franchise tag and are willing to complete a trade off it in the event that no long-term agreement is achieved.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach stated earlier today that the team will probably utilise the franchise tag to retain one of its top two prospective free agents, DT Chris Jones or Sneed. It appears that they will utilise the tag on Sneed and go on if they can reach an agreement with Jones.

“Considering Chris Jones’ high price tag, I think that’s definitely a possibility,” Veach stated on Tuesday, as reported by the Kansas City Star. We’ll address it and, as I indicated, attempt to see if we can complete the job for both of these folks (with a contract). However, I believe that (tagging Sneed) is a possibility.

Sneed would undoubtedly become the best cornerback on the market if he decided to declare for the free market. The Chiefs appear to be thinking that if they are unable to sign him to a long-term contract, they would prefer not to lose him for third-round compensation, which may be offset by additions the club makes in free agency. By tagging a player, you can get additional time to negotiate a long-term contract and control over him should a trade become possible.

Dave Bryan emphasises that there’s good cause to apply the brakes. Any club that is willing to trade for Sneed will need to have enough budget room to first absorb the cornerback’s tag figure, which is $19.02 million, before potentially coming to a long-term agreement with him. Although it’s improbable, the Steelers may manipulate the salary cap to achieve this. Not to mention the capital expense of trading for L’Jarius Sneed, who would probably need at least one Day 2 pick.

For the Chiefs in 2023, who won the Super Bowl, Sneed, 27, intercepted two passes. It’s unlikely that the top pending free agency corners wind up in Pittsburgh, with Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson also probably going to be tagged if he doesn’t re-sign and less likely to be moved. Something you most likely already knew.
