Just In: Darvin Ham Explained Why Dinwiddie performed In The…

Spencer Dinwiddie, a guard with the Los Angeles Lakers, has struggled to fit in with the Purple and Gold.

After his first eight games in Los Angeles, his performance has ranged from poor to below average. It does, however, take time to get used to things, and his time as a Laker is no exception.

Even though he has experienced both good and terrible times, there is clearly inconsistency. In a recent media interview, head coach Darivn Ham discussed the guidance he is giving the 30-year-old guard, including Khobi Price of the OC Register. Here’s Ham explaining to Dinwiddie what he told him.

A few hours prior to Thursday’s home game against the Washington Wizards, Coach Darvin Ham stated, “I basically told him to be aggressive and let us figure it out around you.” It’s fantastic that he penetrates the paint so frequently in search of the ideal pass or play to set up for his teammates. However, once you penetrate, the defense will almost certainly instruct you on what to do with the ball 90% of the time.

Thus, just instructing him to be combative. It was a single play in front of our bench. In the second half, he started to pick up steam and launched an early offensive assault (EO attack). As he got to the hoop and finished, I shouted at him. Since everyone else in the locker room is cool with him acting aggressively, I want him to be aggressive and feel safe doing so. That will happen. He’s getting over it. I think that [Wednesday] was a significant start in the right direction and that it will continue.

Dinwiddie is averaging 5.5 points per game on 36.4% shooting, 0.8 rebounds, 0.5 steals, and 3.6 assists in 23.8 minutes of play in eight games played in Los Angeles.

Although it hasn’t fit as well as many had anticipated, Dinwiddie still has plenty of games remaining to get into his rhythm. In their comeback victory over the Clippers, he had his greatest game, scoring seven points, dishing out six assists, and grabbing two rebounds in 20 minutes.
