Ugly injury: Red Sox are likely to lose a key player…….

Boston Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck left Friday’s start against the New York Yankees after being hit in the face by a line drive. The team provided an update on his condition on Saturday.

In a scary moment on Friday night, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck left the game against the New York Yankees after being hit in the face by a line drive.

First and foremost, we hope that Houck is OK. Any time a player gets in the head or facial area, it’s a cause for concern.

Houck is assuredly set to miss time on the injured list, so it will be interesting to see how the team handles the rotation moving forward. The Red Sox have recently demoted both Corey Kluber and Nick Pivetta to the bullpen, so they could bring one of those two back into the rotation. They could also look to make upgrades on the trade market.

The 26-year-old Houck has made the full-time transition into the rotation this year after being a hybrid starter/reliever since making his debut in the 2020 season.
