January was always going to be a damp squib due to heavy summer spending, but it almost got a bit exciting before the deadline.

Serie A strugglers Salernitana were reportedly vying for PNE captain Alan Browne, according to reports from Italy.

The deadline passed with Browne still at Deepdale, but according to Sky Sports, Salernitana will try to reach a pre-contract agreement with the Irishman. Browne’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and there hasn’t been much movement on a possible deal to prolong his stay at Deepdale. Browne may still be on the move after ten years at PNE, but Salernitana doesn’t exactly seem like the most appealing club at the moment. With just 13 points from 24 games, Salernitana is currently bottom of the Serie A table.

Salernitana has only won twice all season, which puts them six points outside of safety and in risk of dropping back into Serie B.

It appears that manager Pippo Inzaghi’s 3-1 loss to Empoli on Friday was the end for him; he was fired officially today.

Inzaghi, a true icon from his playing days, is not only leaving Salernitana, but Fabio Liverani has already been named as his replacement.

Now, as Salernitana makes change after change in an attempt to turn things around, the former Leyton Orient manager will step in and try to keep the team afloat.

In an attempt to make a push to remain up, Salernitana made a management change and signed two seasoned center backs, Jerome Boateng and Kostas Manolas.

Given that Salernitana is on the verge of Serie A relegation and has recently appointed a new manager, we doubt Browne will be interested in signing a pre-contract with them at this time.

It’s evident that the majority of PNE supporters want Browne to stick around and continue making appearances for North End.

The 28-year-old, who we love to see flaunt it with PNE instead of going to Italy or anyplace else, still has so much more to give.
