As they prepare to play the Golden State Warriors on Sunday afternoon, the Boston Celtics are presently riding a nine-game winning run, making them the hottest club in the NBA. Kristaps Porzingis has been a major contributor to their success this season and during this run, but he sustained an injury in the C’s most recent victory against the Dallas Mavericks, casting question on his availability for their matchup with the Warriors.

The Celtics traded for Porzingis this past offseason, and he has been exactly what they were hoping for, putting up some of his finest stats to date (20.3 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.9 APG, 52.6 FG%). But when Dante Exum took a knee to his midriff, it was revealed that Porzingis will not be playing against Golden State because of a quad contusion.

Due to a quad injury, Kristaps Porzingis has been downgraded to OUT for today’s Celtics vs. Warriors game, according to the team.

Given that Porzingis was dubious before this game, the injury doesn’t seem to be too significant, but Boston has been determined to play it careful with their star big man for the entire season. The most important thing right now is to keep him healthy for the postseason, which is what the C’s are trying to accomplish by sitting him out of this game.

Al Horford will take Porzingis’ spot in the starting lineup as a result of his injury, giving the Celtics a strong opportunity to defeat the club who defeated them in the 2022 NBA Finals. Every time Boston and Golden State play, it’s always must-watch television; this next game is no exception, even with Porzingis not participating.
