Leeds United are already putting plans in place for the summer transfer window after an impressive campaign that saw them finish 14th in their first season back in the Premier League.
Daniel Farke has made it clear that he wants the club to show greater ambition in the market, and Leeds’ recruitment staff are focused on bringing in players capable of making a real impact on the first team.
The Whites are open to strengthening both their defence and attack, while the midfield is currently viewed as an area that requires little attention. However, player departures will be just as important as arrivals, with Leeds needing to create room on the wage bill and move on several fringe players. One such exit could soon take a significant step forward.
Leeds set for talks with Valencia over Largie Ramazani
Largie Ramazani spent last season on loan at Valencia after joining the Spanish club from Leeds, and a productive second half of the campaign has encouraged Los Che to pursue a permanent deal.
Although Valencia were reportedly unimpressed by certain aspects of the winger’s attitude towards the end of the season, their interest in bringing him back remains strong. According to AS, discussions between the two clubs are expected to take place in the coming days.
Valencia chief executive Ron Gourlay has travelled to England and is scheduled to meet Leeds officials to discuss a potential transfer for Ramazani.
The Belgian is keen on a return to Spain and is not considered a key part of Leeds’ long-term plans, with Farke unconvinced by the winger.
Leeds would ideally like to recover as much as possible of the £8.6 million they invested in Ramazani. Valencia, however, are hoping to negotiate a significantly lower fee and are also seeking a financial compromise from the player.
The Spanish side are prepared to complete a deal if Leeds accept a fee in the region of £3.5 million, while Ramazani is reportedly willing to take a wage reduction to facilitate the move.
Valencia are not the only club monitoring the situation. Norwich City are also interested and would be prepared to offer a sizeable fee to secure the winger’s services.
Ramazani’s Leeds future appears increasingly uncertain
Farke’s decision to alter Leeds’ system midway through last season proved crucial to the club’s success, but it also reduced the reliance on traditional wide players.
As a consequence, wingers such as Wilfried Gnonto and Daniel James saw their influence diminish, while Noah Okafor was deployed in a more central attacking role.
That tactical adjustment has left Ramazani without a clear position in Leeds’ current setup, and the club will be hoping that interest from Valencia and Norwich develops into firm offers during the summer window.
Leeds and the player’s representatives are expected to seek clarity over his future sooner rather than later rather than allowing uncertainty to extend into pre-season preparations.
Farke was never fully convinced by Ramazani during the club’s Championship campaign, and reports questioning the player’s attitude during his loan spell in Spain are unlikely to strengthen his case.
With pre-season now fast approaching, resolving Ramazani’s future is one matter Leeds would prefer to settle quickly as they continue shaping the squad for the new campaign.
