FIFA DROP THE HAMMER: Referee License Revoked & Five Argentina Stars Suspended From World Cup Final

FIFA have finally broken their silence on the Falklands banner controversy – and Argentina have been HAMMERED 😱

The referee from the semi-final has had his license REVOKED after a “clear conflict of interest” was identified in his performance.

FIVE Argentina players have also been SUSPENDED from the World Cup final after the Falklands banner stunt.

The Referee Scandal

FIFA have revoked the license of American referee Ismail Elfath, who took charge of the controversial semi-final between Argentina and England .

An investigation revealed that Elfath had “breached neutrality protocols” and showed a “clear bias” in his decision-making, which directly impacted the result of the match.

The decision comes after FIFA faced mounting pressure to act. English referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor were already ruled out of officiating Argentina matches due to geopolitical sensitivities over the Falklands.

The Five Suspended Players

FIFA have also suspended FIVE Argentina players from the World Cup final for their involvement in the Falklands banner stunt.

The players banned are understood to be:

1. Lionel Messi – The captain, who was photographed in front of the banner

2. Cristian Romero – The Tottenham defender who helped unfurl it

3. Lisandro Martinez – The Manchester United star who posed with it

4. Leandro Paredes – The midfielder who was seen celebrating with it

5. Nicolas Otamendi – The veteran defender who was part of the group

The Falklands Banner Backlash

After Argentina’s controversial semi-final win over England, players celebrated with a banner that read “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” (The Falklands are Argentine) .

The gesture was a direct provocation. It was a political statement. And it broke FIFA’s strict rules against political messaging .

The British government demanded action. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesman delivered a brutal response: “The World Cup might not be ours, but the Falkland Islands definitely are” .

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey led the charge, calling for Argentina’s players to be suspended for Sunday’s final against Spain . A petition to kick Argentina out of the World Cup reached over 10 million signatures .

The Final in Chaos

Argentina now face Spain in the World Cup final WITHOUT five of their key players, including their captain and talisman.

Their chances of winning the trophy have been DESTROYED.

The Bottom Line

FIFA have dropped the hammer. The referee is gone. Five players are suspended.
