Even though the dust has barely settled on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, preparations for the historic 2030 edition are already well underway—and six nations have already booked their places in the tournament.
The expanded qualification comes as a result of FIFA’s unique hosting arrangement for the 2030 World Cup, which will be staged across three continents. Spain, Portugal, and Morocco have been confirmed as the main host nations, while Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will each stage one commemorative opening match to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the very first FIFA World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930.
Under FIFA regulations, host nations automatically qualify for the tournament. As a result, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay have all secured their places at the 2030 FIFA World Cup without needing to go through the qualification process.
The decision marks the first time in World Cup history that six countries have automatically qualified as hosts, making the 2030 tournament one of the most unique editions ever staged.
With six places already taken, the remaining nations from Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, North America, and Oceania will battle it out during the qualification campaign for the remaining spots in the expanded tournament.
