Rangers and Celtic Face Ghedjemis Transfer Blow as Monaco Prepare Fresh Bid
Rangers and Celtic could be set to miss out on Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis, with Monaco reportedly preparing to return with an improved offer after seeing their opening bid rejected.
Both Scottish giants have identified the 23-year-old Algerian as a potential addition to their attacking options, but Monaco’s renewed interest could now complicate their pursuit.
Rangers have already strengthened their central attacking options with the arrival of Lawrence Shankland, but Derek McInnes is still keen to add more quality and depth to his wide attacking positions.
The Gers have endured a difficult start to the new campaign. They were held by Dundee United on the opening day before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first leg of their Europa League qualifying tie on Thursday.
Rangers are also pursuing PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech, although Celta Vigo are reportedly threatening to beat them to his signature.
Celtic, meanwhile, remain active in the transfer market and are working on a deal for Haissem Hassan of Real Oviedo. The Hoops are understood to be close to completing the move, with only a few details reportedly left to resolve.
However, neither Celtic nor Rangers have been able to secure Ghedjemis, despite both clubs showing significant interest in the winger.
Monaco have now emerged as a serious threat. The Ligue 1 club recently submitted an opening proposal for Ghedjemis, but Frosinone rejected the offer.
According to French sports newspaper L’Équipe, Monaco are not prepared to walk away from the deal and “will return” to Frosinone with an improved bid in an attempt to prise the winger away from the Italian club.
Monaco’s initial proposal was reportedly worth €7 million, with a further €2 million available in bonuses. Frosinone rejected those terms and are now bracing themselves for another approach.
Reports suggest Celtic and Rangers have also made offers in the region of €10 million for Ghedjemis, but those proposals were turned down as well.
Frosinone remain reluctant to sell their prized attacking player, but the growing transfer interest suggests that Ghedjemis could eventually leave the club this summer.
With Monaco now stepping up their pursuit and preparing another offer, Celtic and Rangers could face a major setback in their attempts to land the highly-rated Algerian winger.
