Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo has broken his silence on transfer speculation, while manager Rui Borges has made the club’s position clear amid growing interest from Sunderland.
The Mozambique international has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with the Black Cats emerging as one of the sides monitoring his situation.
Catamo’s Response
Speaking for the first time about the rumours, Catamo remained measured but open about his future.
“I am focused on Sporting and giving my best every day in training and in matches. This is a special club for me and I am happy here. At the same time, I know football can change quickly. If something serious develops, I will sit down with my family and my representatives and make the right decision for my career.”
The 24-year-old added:
“Sunderland is a club with ambition and a clear project. I respect that. But right now my head is with Sporting. We have important goals this season and I want to help the team as much as possible.”
Rui Borges Sets The Club’s Stance
Sporting head coach Rui Borges addressed the speculation directly and left little room for misunderstanding.
“Geny is an important player for us. He has quality, he has pace, and he works hard for the team. We do not want to lose players who can help us compete at the highest level. Our position is clear — we value him highly and any interest would have to reflect that.”
Borges continued:
“We understand that Premier League clubs will always look at talented players. That is normal. But Sporting is not a selling club when it does not suit us. If an offer arrives that makes sense for everyone, we will listen. Until then, Geny remains part of our plans.”

Sunderland, under Régis Le Bris, have been searching for attacking reinforcements and see Catamo as a player who could add directness and quality on the wing. Talks between the clubs have been reported, although Sporting are understood to be holding firm on their valuation.
