Wolves Transfer Roundup: Peixoto Reveals Deadline Day Plans

With the transfer deadline approaching, Cesar Peixoto has provided a clearer picture of Wolves’ plans for the final days of the window.

The head coach has confirmed that Sam Johnstone is free to leave, while Jose Sa’s future remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Wolves are expected to continue looking for attacking reinforcements, with a left-footed right winger and a third striker among Peixoto’s priorities.

There could also be further movement among the club’s fringe players. Sasa Kalajdzic is set to leave for LASK, while Ladislav Krejci has been linked with West Ham. However, Peixoto has made it clear that Boubacar Traoré and André remain important members of his squad.

Here is the latest on Wolves’ transfer plans, including the players who could leave, the positions Peixoto wants to strengthen and the deals that may still take shape before Deadline Day.

Johnstone free to leave Wolves

The goalkeeping situation has changed quickly this week following the arrivals of John Ruddy and João Virgínia.

Peixoto has confirmed that Sam Johnstone can leave Wolves before the transfer deadline. The goalkeeper is still training with the squad, but he has been told that he is not part of the club’s plans going forward.

Peixoto said the decision was made after an honest conversation with the player. The head coach also stressed that difficult choices are sometimes required to build the right squad.

Johnstone’s future now depends on whether a suitable offer arrives before the window closes. His departure would leave Wolves with Ruddy, Virgínia and Sa competing for places, although Sa’s position is not completely secure either.

Jose Sa could still leave, but Wolves are prepared

Wolves are prepared to keep Jose Sa for the rest of the season, and that remains the most likely outcome at this stage. However, Peixoto admitted that it is not certain the goalkeeper will stay.

When asked whether Sa would remain at the club, the head coach replied: “It is not 100 per cent.”

Peixoto would like the Portuguese goalkeeper to stay, but Wolves have made preparations in case an offer arrives. The club’s recent additions suggest that it would not be left without options if Sa were to depart.

For now, though, Johnstone appears to be the more likely goalkeeper to leave Molineux.

developing quickly.

Peixoto has spoken positively about the player and pointed out that he remains under contract at Wolves. The head coach also believes Bellegarde can make a valuable contribution when he returns to full fitness.

The expectation is that Bellegarde could stay if Wolves do not receive an attractive offer before the deadline. His immediate priority will be recovering from injury and returning to training.

an area that is central to Peixoto’s plans. Roma’s interest may be understandable, but André should be considered unavailable this summer.

Wolves miss out on Ryan Giles

Wolves have reportedly made an offer for Hull defender Ryan Giles, but the former academy player now appears likely to join Burnley instead.

Transfer reporter Pete O’Rourke has claimed that both Wolves and West Ham made offers for the 25-year-old. However, Giles is understood to be close to joining Burnley on loan, with the club holding an option to sign him permanently.

A return to Molineux would have given Giles the chance to come back to the club where he spent 15 years after joining the academy at the age of eight. He eventually left Wolves permanently for Luton Town in July 2023.

The move to Burnley now looks the most likely outcome. Wolves may therefore miss out on a familiar option who could have offered Peixoto extra cover in defence.

Krejci linked with West Ham

Ladislav Krejci has also been linked with a late move away from Wolves.

Football Insider reports that the defender is being considered by West Ham and that discussions have taken place with the player. There is no suggestion that an agreement has been reached, but the possibility of Krejci joining one of Wolves’ promotion rivals is likely to concern supporters.

The 27-year-old has made just one appearance this season, coming on as a late substitute in the Carabao Cup win over Port Vale. Peixoto has used Toti Gomes and Nasser Djiga as his preferred centre-back pairing in the Championship so far.

That does not make Krejci expendable. He remains an experienced defender who could provide important competition and cover across a long campaign.

Wolves were previously understood to be prepared to keep him if a suitable permanent or loan offer did not arrive. A move to West Ham would be difficult to accept, particularly with both clubs targeting promotion.

Krejci’s lack of playing time may make a transfer understandable from the player’s perspective, but Wolves should be careful before allowing another useful defender to leave.

Wolves still have plenty to resolve

Peixoto’s latest comments have provided some welcome clarity, but Wolves still have several decisions to make before the deadline.

Johnstone has been told he can leave, while Sa could still depart if the right offer arrives. Traoré and André appear to be staying, although Krejci’s future remains uncertain. At the other end of the pitch, Kalajdzic’s exit has increased the need for another striker.

Peixoto has made it clear that Wolves will not sign players simply for the sake of adding numbers. Any new arrival must improve the squad and fit the standards he expects from his players.

The club’s priority should now be strengthening the attack without weakening the rest of the team. With only a short time left in the window, Wolves must make sure that any late business moves them closer to their promotion goal rather than creating more problems to solve.
