The Football Association has released an official statement confirming that Nottingham Forest are under investigation for an alleged breach of financial regulations linked to their recent transfer activity.
In the statement, the FA said:
“Following a review of Nottingham Forest Football Club’s financial submissions and transfer-related expenditure, the club has been referred for further examination regarding potential non-compliance with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules and associated regulations.”
The probe focuses on the scale of Forest’s spending in recent windows and how certain transfer fees and related costs have been accounted for within the permitted loss thresholds. This comes after the club’s previous four-point deduction for a PSR breach in the 2023/24 season.
The FA added:
“The matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves. An independent process will determine whether any breach has occurred and, if so, what sanctions may be appropriate. The club will be given a full opportunity to respond.”
Forest have invested heavily in the squad under owner Evangelos Marinakis in an effort to establish themselves as a consistent top-flight side. However, the timing of the statement has created significant concern among supporters, who fear another points deduction or transfer restrictions could damage the club’s ambitions.
A club spokesperson responded:
“Nottingham Forest takes its financial responsibilities seriously. We will cooperate fully with the FA and Premier League and remain confident in our position.”
Any formal charge or sanction would represent a major setback for the club as they prepare for the new season. Further updates are expected once the investigation progresses.
