Coventry City’s new club-record signing Caleb Yirenkyi has shared a special private message he received from Frank Lampard before completing his move to the CBS Arena, delighting Sky Blues fans.
The 20-year-old Ghana international, who joined from Danish side Nordsjaelland earlier this week in a deal worth around €27 million plus add-ons, opened up about the personal note that helped convince him the Premier League was the right next step.
Speaking after finalising his long-term contract, Yirenkyi revealed the short but powerful message Lampard sent him during the final stages of negotiations.
“The manager sent me a simple 10-word message that really touched me,” Yirenkyi said.
“It just said: ‘Come and grow with us. This is your time here.’”
The young midfielder explained how the direct and personal approach from Lampard made a big difference.
“When I read those words I felt wanted,” he continued. “It wasn’t long or complicated, but it showed me he believed in me and had a clear plan.”
Yirenkyi, who impressed for Ghana at the recent World Cup, added that further conversations with the Coventry boss sealed the deal.
“After that message we spoke properly about the style of play and how he sees me fitting in. I liked everything he said. He told me I would have the chance to learn and develop every day.”
The Ghanaian star also expressed his excitement about joining a club with such strong ambition after their promotion.
“I am so happy to be here. The fans, the project, the manager — everything feels right. I want to work hard, help the team and show why the club believed in me.”
Sky Blues supporters have reacted warmly to the young midfielder’s words, seeing the personal touch from Lampard as further proof of the positive culture being built at the club.
Yirenkyi is expected to begin training with his new teammates in the coming days as Coventry prepare for their Premier League return.
