🚨 Farke Sends Brutal Message as Leeds Defender Misses Key Trip Amid Transfer Talks
Hamburg remain interested in signing Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, but a deal does not appear to be close, with no medical examination scheduled and the Belgian set to miss the Bundesliga club’s trip to France on Friday.
The German outfit are stepping up preparations for the new Bundesliga campaign and are eager to strengthen their defence following the departure of Luka Vuskovic at the end of his loan spell.
Bornauw has emerged as one of Hamburg’s preferred targets due to his extensive Bundesliga experience and his limited role in Daniel Farke’s plans at Elland Road.
Leeds are not expected to block a move if the centre-back wishes to leave, and a switch to Hamburg remains a realistic possibility. However, the transfer is not thought to be at an advanced stage.
According to German outlet Hamburger Morgen Post, no medical has been arranged for Bornauw on either Thursday evening or Friday, suggesting there is still work to be done before any agreement can be finalised.
With Hamburg scheduled to travel to France on Friday for a friendly against Toulouse, Bornauw will not be part of the travelling squad.
Negotiations for the defender are understood to be ongoing, while interest from other clubs could also complicate matters.
Bornauw previously enjoyed successful spells with FC Köln and Wolfsburg and is regarded as a dependable and experienced Bundesliga defender.
Leeds paid around £5 million to bring him to Elland Road last summer, but regular opportunities have been difficult to come by, with Farke favouring alternative defensive options.
The Whites have already strengthened their back line with the arrival of Bosnia international Tarik Muharemovic and are continuing their pursuit of Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi.
Should Elvedi complete a move to West Yorkshire, Bornauw’s route to regular first-team football could become even more restricted, increasing the likelihood of an exit before the transfer window closes.
The 27-year-old signed a four-year contract when he joined Leeds, and it remains unclear what transfer fee the club would demand to sanction his departure.
