A silent farewell? Two Leeds United players now look certain to leave

Leeds United ended their campaign with a 3-0 defeat away at West Ham United, though the result ultimately had little impact for either side as the Hammers were still relegated from the Premier League.

Goals from Valentín Castellanos, Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson ensured West Ham signed off their disappointing season with a win in front of their supporters at the London Stadium. However, results elsewhere — including Tottenham Hotspur’s victory — confirmed their drop to the Championship.

Daniel Farke is expected to be disappointed by Leeds’ lack of composure in the opening half, particularly after Dominic Calvert-Lewin squandered a golden opportunity that quickly attracted criticism.

With very little at stake for Leeds, Farke used the occasion to potentially hand a final appearance in a white shirt to several players.

Leeds United pair likely made their final appearances

Joel Piroe and Facundo Buonanotte were both introduced during the final ten minutes of Leeds’ defeat at the London Stadium.

Piroe, who finished as the Championship’s leading scorer last season, struggled for opportunities throughout the current campaign and ended the season without a single Premier League goal.

The striker has been strongly linked with a move away from Elland Road since last summer, and an exit now appears increasingly inevitable ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Buonanotte, meanwhile, arrived on loan during the winter transfer window but failed to make a meaningful impact. The Argentine midfielder barely featured in recent months and spent long periods out of the matchday spotlight.

Leeds are not expected to pursue a permanent deal for the Brighton loanee, meaning he will return to his parent club at the end of the season after an underwhelming spell at Elland Road.

Leeds expected to strengthen in attack

While Buonanotte’s departure is already certain, Piroe also appears set to move on as Leeds continue searching for attacking reinforcements this summer.

The Dutch forward has fallen down the pecking order and is now viewed as a fourth-choice option in Farke’s squad. A transfer would likely benefit both the player and the club, especially with Piroe eager for more regular football.

Several Championship sides are believed to be monitoring his situation due to his proven record in the second tier.

There is also the possibility of a return to the Netherlands, where the forward previously built his reputation before moving to English football.
