Leeds United surpassed most expectations this season, securing a respectable 14th-place finish in their first campaign back in the Premier League. With survival comfortably achieved, focus has already shifted toward the summer transfer window and how the club can continue its upward trajectory.
Chairman Paraag Marathe recently indicated that it may take up to three seasons for Leeds to fully establish themselves as a stable Premier League outfit. He also suggested that the club is unlikely to be as active in the transfer market as it was last summer.
Despite that, Leeds have proven throughout the season that they belong at this level. Daniel Farke’s side consistently held their own against more experienced Premier League opponents and rarely looked overwhelmed. There is growing confidence around Elland Road that the gap between Leeds and the clubs above them can be reduced even further next season.
Farke is expected to remain in charge for the upcoming campaign, providing Leeds with valuable continuity and stability at a time when several rivals are facing uncertainty.
One of those rivals is Fulham, who finished three places and five points ahead of Leeds in the final standings. The Cottagers are searching for a new manager following the departure of Marco Silva, who has agreed to take over at Benfica.
According to TeamTalk, Fulham have identified former Liverpool boss Arne Slot as one of the leading candidates for the role. Slot famously guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield, but an inconsistent 2025/26 campaign that ended with a fifth-place finish resulted in his dismissal last week.
The Dutch coach is reportedly eager to return to management quickly and would prefer to stay in the Premier League after successfully proving himself in English football.
Fulham are expected to begin formal discussions with managerial candidates soon, with Slot among those likely to be interviewed for the vacancy at Craven Cottage. Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank are also believed to be under consideration.
Should Fulham succeed in appointing a manager of Slot’s calibre, it would significantly strengthen a side that already finished above Leeds this season. The foundations laid by Silva have put the London club in a strong position, and a high-profile appointment could make them an even tougher opponent next year.
Leeds already know that their second season back in the Premier League is likely to present an even greater challenge. While they secured survival with games to spare this season, the competition across the division continues to intensify.
The success of Leeds and Sunderland has demonstrated that promoted clubs can thrive in the Premier League when recruitment is handled effectively and investment is targeted wisely. However, standing still is rarely an option in England’s top flight.
If rivals such as Fulham continue to strengthen both on and off the pitch, Leeds may require more than just a handful of quality additions this summer. To continue progressing and avoid stagnation, the Whites may need to be more ambitious than initially planned as the Premier League landscape becomes increasingly competitive.
