Leeds United star’s exit gathers pace as transfer talks loom

After securing a 14th-place finish in their first season back in the Premier League, Leeds United have shifted their focus towards the summer transfer window and the task of strengthening the squad for the next campaign.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has suggested that the Whites are unlikely to be as busy in the market as they were last summer, believing the current group already provides a strong platform to build upon.

However, Daniel Farke has made it clear that he wants the club to continue progressing. The Leeds boss has emphasised the importance of showing ambition in the transfer market and believes standing still would not fit with his long-term vision for the team.

Player departures will also play a key role in Leeds’ transfer plans, and discussions are now expected regarding the future of one striker ahead of the new season.

Joe Gelhardt facing crucial talks over Leeds future

Leeds are prepared to part ways with Joe Gelhardt this summer, with the forward entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road and seemingly outside Daniel Farke’s plans.

The striker enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Hull City, where he played a significant role in helping the Tigers secure promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

Hull are keen to make the move permanent, but Leeds have temporarily paused negotiations as they assess the market and explore whether other clubs are willing to submit higher offers following Gelhardt’s successful stint at the MKM Stadium.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Leeds are expected to hold talks with Gelhardt over the coming weeks to determine the next steps in his career.

While the club recognise that his future likely lies away from Elland Road, they remain determined to secure the best possible transfer fee before sanctioning a move.

Hull remain interested in signing him, although Rangers have also been linked with the 24-year-old as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.

Leeds must reach a decision quickly

Gelhardt has arguably enjoyed the most productive period of his career during his time at Hull City and has previously expressed his desire to make the switch permanent.

First-team opportunities at Leeds have been limited under Farke, and a return to Elland Road now appears increasingly unlikely.

Given his strong performances and Hull’s increased financial power following promotion, Leeds are justified in seeking a substantial fee for the striker’s services.

At the same time, there is clear benefit in resolving the situation sooner rather than later. A swift agreement would provide clarity for all parties involved and allow Gelhardt to focus fully on preparing for the challenges of Premier League football next season.
