Scotland International Shares Clear Ambition Ahead of Historic World Cup Return

Celtic defender Anthony Ralston is eyeing a World Cup breakthrough for Scotland.

The 27-year-old right-back was a late substitute in the 4-0 win against Bolivia in New Jersey. Ralston, a regular in Steve Clarke’s squad, is eager for Scotland to make history by advancing past the group stage for the first time.

He said: “The boys were excellent. Since we arrived in America, we’ve put the work in, and you saw that today. The goals and the clean sheet, all round very positive.

“We’ve had a bit of time to work in the sun, and that was a great test before next weekend.”

Ralston revealed that manager Clarke has emphasised the importance of squad unity, and he is optimistic about Scotland’s chances in the upcoming tournament. He said: “The gaffer has said it’s going to be a squad tournament.

“It’s a great group of lads, and we want to do ourselves proud over here. As a collective, to get out of the group is our aim.

“I don’t see why we can’t.”

Scotland’s national team has never made it past the group stage in the World Cup.
