Wrexham have taken another major step in their preparations for the new Championship season after reportedly agreeing an £8 million deal with Sunderland for goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
The move would represent another significant investment from the Welsh club as they continue to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Championship.
Patterson is set to become Wrexham’s third major signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Danny Imray from Crystal Palace and Ben Whiteman from Preston North End.
More importantly, the goalkeeper deal could solve one of the biggest questions facing manager Phil Parkinson ahead of the new campaign.

Wrexham will then have consecutive home matches against Watford and Birmingham City before travelling to The Den to face Millwall.
That fixture could be particularly interesting if Patterson completes his move, given that Millwall was his temporary home during the second half of last season.
