Celtic And Rangers Join Race For ‘One Of The Most Wanted Players In Europe’

Celtic and Rangers could be set for their first major transfer battle of the summer as both clubs are reportedly monitoring highly-rated Hungarian midfielder Milan Vitalis.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in Central Europe following an impressive campaign with Győr, helping the club secure the Hungarian league title with a series of influential performances in midfield.

Vitalis contributed nine goals and four assists in 31 league appearances, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in the division and attracting attention from clubs across the continent.

What makes the situation even more intriguing is his contract status.

Vitalis is entering the final year of his current deal, meaning Győr could be forced to consider offers this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2027.

Reports suggest a fee in the region of £1.1 million could be enough to secure his signature, making him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen without spending heavily.

Celtic are believed to be leading the race at this stage as they continue preparations for a major squad rebuild following their domestic double-winning campaign.

With uncertainty surrounding several midfield positions, the Scottish champions are actively exploring options ahead of the new season and see Vitalis as a player with significant upside.

Rangers, however, remain firmly in the picture.

Danny Röhl is expected to oversee a substantial overhaul of his squad after Rangers finished behind both Celtic and Hearts last season, and midfield reinforcements are understood to be a priority.

The Ibrox club have been heavily linked with several central midfielders already this summer, and Vitalis is viewed as a player capable of adding energy, creativity and versatility.

Aberdeen have also been credited with an interest, although the financial power of the Glasgow clubs would likely make them favourites should a bidding war develop.

Hungary manager Marco Rossi recently highlighted Vitalis’ qualities, praising his intelligence and adaptability in midfield.

“Vitalis is performing great in Győr. He reads the game well and can be used in all areas of midfield, so he is very promising from a technical and tactical point of view.”

Those attributes have helped elevate his reputation and explain why interest is growing across Europe.

Vitalis is not the only player attracting attention from both sides of Glasgow. Celtic and Rangers have also been linked with Danish midfielder Silas Andersen, although Sporting Lisbon currently appear to be leading that race.

For now, though, attention is firmly focused on Vitalis.

A title-winning midfielder. A bargain transfer fee. And the possibility of an Old Firm showdown before a ball has even been kicked next season.

The summer transfer window is only just beginning, but the battle lines may already have been drawn.
