NOTTINGHAM FOREST OPEN TALKS OVER SIGNING OF WORLD-CLASS CELTIC STAR AFTER TRANSFER REQUEST ‘SUBMITTED’

Nottingham Forest have opened formal talks over the signing of highly-rated Celtic midfielder Arne Engels after the Belgian international reportedly submitted a transfer request.

The 22-year-old has informed Celtic that he is eager for a new challenge in the Premier League this summer, handing Forest a significant boost in their pursuit of one of the most promising young midfielders in British football.

Positive Developments in Negotiations

According to multiple reports, Forest have already held constructive discussions with Engels’ representatives and Celtic. The club, under manager Vítor Pereira, are determined to strengthen their midfield ahead of what promises to be another demanding Premier League campaign.

A source close to the negotiations told talkSPORT:

“Arne has made his position clear to Celtic. He wants to test himself at a higher level again and sees Nottingham Forest as an exciting project. Talks are progressing well.”

Forest were very active in their interest for Engels during the January 2026 window, submitting three separate bids, with their final offer reaching £25 million. Although those were rejected, the club are now prepared to return with a significantly improved package, potentially in the region of £28m–£35m, to meet Celtic’s valuation.

Engels’ Impressive Profile

Since joining Celtic from Augsburg in 2024, Engels has developed into a key player for the Scottish champions. Known for his excellent technical ability, vision, goal-scoring threat from midfield, and versatility, he has earned praise for his maturity and work rate.

Celtic manager has previously described him as “a world-class talent with a big future ahead of him.”

The Belgium international sees a move to the Premier League as the next step in his career. Sources indicate that he is particularly attracted to Forest’s ambitious project and the opportunity for regular first-team football at a competitive level.

This potential signing would represent a major statement of intent from the City Ground hierarchy. With uncertainty surrounding the future of star midfielder Elliot Anderson amid interest from Manchester clubs, Engels would provide high-quality reinforcement and depth in central areas.

Vítor Pereira is believed to view the Belgian as the ideal profile — young, dynamic, and ready to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

Celtic, while under no immediate pressure to sell one of their prized assets, are aware that rejecting a substantial offer could risk unsettling the player. Negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming days as the summer transfer window gathers pace.

Forest fans will be excited by this development, as securing Engels would add significant creativity and energy to the squad as they aim for a top-half finish and potential European qualification next season.
